You probably already know that: There are three places on Lake Wolfgang. St. Gilgen, Strobl and St. Wolfgang. The Wolfgangsee is located in 2 Austrian federal states - in Upper Austria (St. Wolfgang) and also in Salzburg (Strobl and St. Gilgen). It is impressively framed by the Schafberg, the 12er Horn and the Postalm. The Salzkammergut is the 13th federal state in Austria, is well developed for tourism and offers you a multifaceted holiday. Swimming, diving, floating. Today, according to the weather forecast, the mercury column will climb to over 30 degrees, and it is very warm early in the morning. I look out the window and see St. Gilgen and the Wolfgangsee in front of me, which glitters in the sun and literally welcomes me. For me, my program for the day is set: swimming in the crystal clear water of Lake Wolfgang.

"Gschmå" is a typical word for the Salzkammergut that is rarely used anywhere else. It means: cozy, personable, beautiful, entertaining, pleasant. If everything fits, then it's “gschmå”. At Wolfgangsee the guests can now experience in a special way what this term expresses and that is why the "Gschmå-Platzl" were set up in an elaborate project: the most relaxing resting places in the most beautiful places.

Winter activities

Winter holidays are an Austrian domain. This includes white slopes, steep slopes and hearty après-ski. These are standards. With a little imagination and a lot of Lake Wolfgang you can find out what makes winter even more beautiful.

There are many ski areas, some that are larger than the Salzkammergut, some that are chic and really "in" and correspondingly overbooked.

You will probably find few more beautiful ski areas than around Lake Wolfgang. Many of the posh ski resorts are overpriced, crowded and really stressful - and then the winter fun ends with the ski slope.

In the Wolfgangsee region, on the other hand, the luxurious more begins away from the slopes, a rich abundance of possibilities to enchant the family winter in the most pleasant way of vacation.

Last but not least, Wolfgangsee's winter magic is an experience of nature and enjoyment of originality.

You can enjoy a wealth of leisure activities and a fantastic variety here even without "boarding", because the wintry Wolfgangsee is the holiday destination for connoisseurs.

The top tours around the Unesco world heritage site: The Dachstein crossing, also known as "Austria's national ski tour", is considered to be one of the most beautiful ski tours in the entire Alpine region. The tour starts at 2700 meters on the Styrian side of the Dachstein. The destination is Obertraun in Upper Austria.

Winter hiking around the Wolfgangsee. In winter the Salzkammergut is transformed into a fairytale snow landscape. Silence falls over the land and you can only hear the soft crunch of the snow under your feet. The tiny snow crystals glitter like precious diamonds, the air is cold and wonderfully clear.
